Drama between Malaika former members is far from over

Former Malaika lead singer, Tshedi Mholo has come out guns blazing against fellow member, Bongani Nchang. The two members of the award-winning outfit Malaika are no longer on speaking terms after going their separate ways a couple of years ago. Tshedi says she is tired of being attacked by confused Maliaka’s fans because they don’t know I that she is no longer part of the group. Tshedi who is currently working on her own project says she wants to make it clear to the public especially music promoters that she is no longer affiliated with Malaika. “I am not interested in Malaika I don’t even want to be tagged by people- because I know some people can be ignorant and might think that I don’t pitch up when booked for gigs - I don’t work with Bongani there is a new person” she added.

SHE TOLD HER FANS SHE IS NO LONGER PART OF MALAIKA

Since Tuesday, Mholo has been explaining to her fans that she is not a part of the advertised shows, under the name, Malaika. Mholo has since gone solo, while Bongani works with another female, (NAME & SURNAME) singer, originally from KwaZulu-Natal. On Tuesday, a livid Mholo posted: Been quiet and trying to restore his and her dignity. BUT THIS IS NOT ME!!. #MalaikaReloaded. Don’t swear at her please. Just so I clear the air. Haven’t met up or know who she is?.I’ve been busy here doing my shit?but it affects my safety and reputation.

BITTER TSHEDI

A source said Mholo is jealous that Nchang is keeping the Malaika flag flying high with another female member. "Tshedi has been performing in the UK, Zimbabwe and South Africa during the festive season. She has been performing popular songs Malaika, and Bongani (Nchang) has never made it an issue. "Now that Bongani and his musical partner are getting gigs, Tshedi has issues. She’s even setting fans against the female singer when she said they must tag her in one of the posts," said a source. In her post on Tuesday, Mholo wrote: "All I’m asking is tag her or them not me. I paid for my press statement avoid confusion. Or ask Pastor Alph to assist ka announcement. #Malaika. Disclose prior to confirmation of a gig that I’m not part of this please. Ek is moeg.

MENDING RELATIONSHIP

The source told Zimoja that for the past few years, both Nchang and Mholo had fruitless meeting about working together. This until in November 14 last year when Mholo released a two-page statement on her Instagram account where she explained to her followers that, she and Bongani were going their separate ways as members of Malaika."To Bongani, all the best you (sic) should you so wish to continue individually and or get my replacement to preserve the Malaika Legacy" said Mholo in her Instagram account then. There was an unwritten rule that they’ll continue to sing their award-winning songs separately a source said. "Music promoters and fans still think they work together. So why is Tshedi catching feelings when fans ask her about shows that involve Malaika?" asked the source. Free State Lifestyle Events also had to clear the air early this month when there was an apparent confusion about the booking of Malaika for the All-White Star event taking place on February 17 at Griffons Stadium in Welkom, Free State. On their Facebook page, the event organisers cleared the air, that they booked Bongani and his new partner, Tswakae. The statement read: "Due to confusion caused by the name (Malaika) we would like to clarify that DENNIS M ALL WHITE AFFAIRS soul&rnb event have booked Bongani (Malaika) who performs with Tswakae..." When called for comment Bongani says he has been keeping quiet for a long time - he says he doesn’t understand what is Tsedi’s problem. “I am not sure whether she is bitter or what- but I don’t know what triggered her to what write whatever she wrote,” he adds. Chang who wrote most of Malaika’s songs says Tshedi is to be blamed for the fall out of the group because she is the one who started acting childish and now that he has moved on with a new partner all of a sudden there are issues.

“She is the one who walked away from the group, she knows the truth she knows what happened," he adds.
