The families of Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane and Kiernan "AKA" Forbes have announced dates for their memorial services and funerals. Tibz's memorial service will be held on 15 February in Observatory and AKA's memorial will be on Friday 17 February and his funeral on Saturday 18 February during a private ceremony. "We as the Forbes family would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love we have received over the past few days," The Forbes family said in a statement. "Kiernan wasn't just loved by us as a family, but by the nation, as we've seen from loved ones, friends, industry colleagues, media tributes, and The Megacy."

BONGANI MOHOSANA EXCUSED FROM FUNERAL

The family also announced that DJ Zinhle Jiyane's husband, Bongani M?rda" Mohosana will not be attending the memorial service and funeral due to cultural protocol. DJ Zinhle is the mother of Kiernan's child Kairo Forbes. "We'd like to acknowledge our extended family, the Mohosana for their unwavering support during this time. As Bongani Mohosana will be in absentia at the memorial and funeral due to observing cultural protocol." 

Bongani has since written a heartfelt message to the late rapper. "Dear Kiernan, I took a little longer than I had to write this, but to be honest I didn't know what to say. As a fellow musician thank you bro, thank you for inspiring all of us to do better," he says. "Thank you for always proving your love for music in the quality of music you created. Your catalogue will be one of the greatest catalogues of all time. As a man, I learned something very important from you, know your worth, no matter what happens in your life always know your worth? as a father, you were amazing, you did it all for Kairo and that shows in the love she has inside of her. Your legacy will live on. May you rest well with the many legends we look up to. Till we meet again, Dad Motion."

AKA'S BODY IN JOHANNESBURG

The Forbes family lawyer Rudolph Baloyi confirmed that Kiernan's body has been returned to Joburg where he was living, and the family is preparing for his burial and memorial service. "As you would have seen, we spent the day in Durban, where we went to go identify him together with the father and the brother," Rudolph says. "We spent time with the detectives that are working on the case and did a few interviews. Then we managed to come back with Kiernan. At this point in time, his body is in Johannesburg." The rapper and his former manager were shot outside Wish restaurant on Florida Road in Durban on the evening of 10 February 2023. AKA is reported to have just dined with friends when two gunmen approached him while chatting to an old friend outside the restaurant. The two gunmen shot at the group of friends killing the rapper and chef Tibz instantly before running across the street. The motive behind the hit is still unknown.
