DJ Shimza, real name, Ashley Raphala, has successfully sued Twitter user Nhlamulo "Nota" Baloyi, who is the ex-husband of singer Berita, for defamation. Baloyi, who is known by the Twitter account as AuthorityNOTA, even called DJ Shimza "moerskont". The deejay had sued him for R500 000 but the Johannesburg High Court ordered Baloyi to pay DJ Shimza an amount to the tune of R200 000 and furthermore pay interest on this amount on the mora rate from the date of judgment to the date of payment.
SETTLEMENT PLUS LEGAL FEES
It doesn't rain for Baloyi as he must cover DJ Shimza's legal fees as well. An Invoice of R252 540 from Advocate EJJ Nel, dated August 8 2022, was sent to Nota to pay legal fees before before October 1 2022 into his bank account. DJ Shimza has told Zimoja that he will donate the money owed to him by Nota to charity organisations of his choice.
PAYMENT IN INSTALMENTS
Baloyi's legal team agreed to pay in four instalments and have also made an undertaking to pay without any hassles. Baloyi took a swipe at former President, Jacob Zuma, labelling him corrupt. Part of the defamatory tweets that Nota wrote about Shimza on May 17, 2021, said: "Zuma trial is about how corruption starts at the head. Now people think corruption is the only way to do business. Shimza don't throw stones because you live in a glass house. You benefitted directly from corruption... follow the authority's example and say no to corrupt money!"
