DJ Sbu responds to allegations that TS Records stole Umthunzi Welanga from Thembi Seete

DJ Sbu is fuming after he and his former business partners at TSRecords are accused by Cleopas "DJ Cleo' Monyepao of music theft. In an interview on the Podcast and Chill  with MacG, DJ Cleo made some damning statements about former kwaito music friends and colleagues.

 THE STOLEN SONG

Speaking about his musical journey, he touched on the major songs that he produced for artists. He opened up about being asked to remix Thembi Seete's acapella verse titled Phantsi Komthunzi Welanga, which ended up not happening and instead landed in the wrong hands at TS Records and was given to the late Brown Dash."Mthunzi Welanga was written by Thembi Seete and she never got her share of anything there. I was given a song by Vusi Leeuw. He was working for CCP at the time. He asked me to do a remix of the song. I listened to the acapella but I didn't like it. I then found that one piece, which I looped repeatedly. Which I still have to this day,' he says.  "Thembi was singing repeatedly, 'Phantsi Komthunzi Welanga,Masigidakushoni langa' and Brown Dash, who was my boy, he loved the song."

 LEGAL THREATS

The expose has not sat well with his music industry peers who have threatened legal action. Responding all the way from his USA , DJ Sbu says no one stole music from Thembi Seete and that Brown Dash's legacy must be respected."18 years later...May we kindly respect the dead. Brown Dash is no longer here to speak for himself. May he kindly be left alone to rest in peace,' DJ Sbu says. "Phantsi Komthunzi Welanga was produced by Mdu, written on the spot by Mduduzi Masilela, Siphiwe Mpamile, Brown Dash, Mzekezeke, and Sbusiso Leope,' he adds. "The classic song was written, produced, composed, and recorded in Sandton at Mdu Studios in the presence of the above-mentioned people and no one else.'DJ Sbu has threatened to take legal action against his music counterpart. "A lawsuit is looming for anyone spreading false claims, allegations, blatant lies and malicious rumours, tainting the legacy of the late Brown Dash, his children, and his family,' he says."We will not tolerate people's speculations at the expense of the late Brown Dash, who is no longer here to speak for himself.'

 MORE LAWSUITS

In the accusations, DJ Cleo also included music executive Vusi Leeuw for being part of the song heist. Vusi Leeuw has also demanded a public apology, or he will also be suing for defamation "I am suing him. I am coming for him legally for defaming my name and painting me to be a song thief,' he says. "He needs to tell the truth about what happened and stop with the lies.'
