With April fast approaching, most radio stations in the country will be making changes to their line-up. One of the most significant changes has already taken place at Y, a commercial radio station in Gauteng. Their morning drive show host DJ Ankletap or 'Malume' as he is affectionately known bid farewell to his listeners on Wednesday morning. The Y Mornings host's last day at the station is 24 March.
OVER A DECADE AT THE STATION
Ankletap whose real name is Bryce Clark had been at the youth radio station previously known as YFM for twelve years. "The day I entered the programme's office I knew Y will be my home. I have dedicated 12 years of my life to this brand and believe that the time has come to make a way for new generations of talent to take the reins. I believe in Y and in the talent here,' he said. He added that he will miss his listeners. "I will miss Y Morning listeners, but I know I am leaving them in good hands, I will always hold Y in my heart,' he said.
LEAVING AT HIS OWN ACCORD
apparently informed the management that his contract should not be renewed. His reasons for leaving the station are not clear but highly placed sources told ZiMoja that he is joining a new station. Sources close to the deejay tell Zimoja that he is making big moves and wants to move away from Y's younger market. According to the source he has been spotted at Kaya FM meeting with the big bosses. Y Managing Director Hassan Cassim said: "I have watched Ankletap grow. He is an incredible talent and I believe he is one of the best storytellers in South African radio. I have watched him throughout his time at Y and find his ability to genuinely connect with the listeners incredible, he had listeners at their edge of their seats, with laughter, tears and in awe with him as he shared his incredible life experiences with them' Cassim said.
