Office bearer and delegate at Cosatu Conference arrested for rape

A woman has come out to say someone who is influential and a delegate at the Cosatu Conference has raped her

The Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing , Wood and Allied Workers (CEPPWAWU) officer bearer and delegate at the Cosatu Conference held at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand was arrested and charged with rape yesterday. He cannot be named as he hasn't appeared in court. His arrest comes after the 20-year old victim who was sleeping at Regal Hotel in Noordwyk in Midrand  woke up with the friend of her boyfriend peacefully sleeping next to her.

WAKING UP NEXT TO HER BOYFRIEND'S FRIEND

According to a source, "The victim alleged that she was sleeping with his boyfriend at the Regal Hotel Noordwyk and she fell asleep and when she woke up she found that her boyfriend was not on bed with her.  She found that her boyfriend's friend was on the bed with her and he slept with her without her consent. She called the police and the suspect, who is the delegate of CEPPWAWU and an office bearer. The suspect was arrested during the conference in Midrand at Gallagher Convention Centre."

A source says that SAPS Midrand Station Commander, Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso, is appalled by what happened and is said to have said that," SAPS Midrand has been advocating for the victims of GBV and femicide through picketing and media platforms in protecting the rights of the affected. The station commander has condemned such acts which continue to violate the rights and dignity of women in our society. We are calling on men to take a stand and say no to Gender Based Violence. We will at all times acts against the perpetrators within the precinct of the law and bring justice to those victimised."
SAPS SpokespersonCaptain Mavela Masondo confirmed the terrible event and said, "A rape case has been opened for further investigation and the suspect was arrested. He is expected to appear before court soon."
