Between April 2021 and March 2022, 31 police officers were recorded to have died in the line of duty. In September the fallen heroes were remembered and celebrated for their selfless service to the people of South Africa. During the South African Police Service Commemoration Day ceremony 2022, President Cyril Ramaphosa condemned police killings. "This day should also serve to mobilise society against the killing of our officers. No society can remain silent when criminals have clearly declared war on the police. Our men and women in blue represent the authority of the state and any attack on them is a direct attack on the state and an attack on the people. I call upon all our police members to remain vigilant at all times," said Ramaphosa.
