COPE leader Mosiuoa Lekota opens fraud case against party leaders

Mosiuoa Lekota says he knows nothing about a letter firing City of Johannesburg Speaker

Congress of the People (COPE ) leader Mosiuoa Lekota opened a case of fraud at the Midrand Police Station yesterday alleging that "some" people used his party letterhead and forged his signature in a letter addressed to the Independent Electoral Commision (IEC). The letter requested that Makhubela be removed from next year's election candidate list.

FORGERY

In his statement to the police seen by ZiMoja, Lekota told the police that his email address which was spelled incorrectly was also used to inform the IEC that he wanted Makhubele removed as COPE PR at the City Of Johannesburg council. Lekota further alleged that he doesn't know the people behind the letter, nor did he sign it. He believes the suspects are within his party and asked that they be fully investigated.

THE LETTER

"COPE Congress executive committee members, led by myself and deputy president Willy Madisha, had a recording both on mainstream media and audio recordings on the 17th of March preaching unity of this organisation. I also confirm the behaviour of Ms. Colleen Makhubela about the letters with my signature to Tshwane Municipal or IEC and further in removing Cllr in Tshwane using her signature as the speaker of Johannesburg. Her conduct brought the organisation into disrepute and therefore her membership has been terminated with immediate effect from Congress of the People." the letter read.
