A police constable has been rearrested for trying to burn his wife and daughter while out on bail on charges of assault. The police constable was also suspended from SAPS after his alleged assaulted his wife in February.

HISTORY OF VIOLENCE 

The 35-year-old police constable attached to Thohoyandou SAPS in Limpopo has in the past assaulted his wife so badly that  ended up in hospital. The 30-year-old woman had had enough and opened an assault case against him, and they separated. 

ATTEMPTED DOUBLE MURDER

Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the cop went to his wife's house in the early hours of Sunday morning and knocked on the window of the room where his wife and daughter were sleeping. "He told his wife that he had brought his child mageu to drinka nd the woman opened the window and took it. After some minutes her husband returned and gained entry into the bedroom carrying fuel, he doused both his wife and daughter with the intention of burning them alive. But before he could burn them, the victim managed to grab the lighter, and let him cool off. Thereafter, she ran to the police station leaving the suspect in the house," Mojapelo said. The wife returned with the police and the suspect was immediately arrested.

AN EMBARRASSMENT TO SAPS

 Limpopo police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the cop's conduct. "The SAPS shall not  tolerate members who place the lives of women and children at risk.This incident by one of our own is not just an embarrassment but also jeopardises our efforts aimed at reducing incidents of Gender Based Violenceboth internally and externally. Our investigating officer will ensure that he forfeits his bail due to the latest incident," Lieutenant General Hadebe said.The suspect will appear in Thohoyandou Magistrate court today, facing charges of attempted murder and housebreaking.
