Cop in court for stealing meat

In an embarrassing moment, a police officer was arrested and charged with theft and defeating the rule of law of Friday.

It is alleged that the police officer were shocked when they saw their colleague being arrested in front of them on Friday morning at the Newcastle apolice Station. Sergeant Mandla Hlubi ( 37) was arrested along with his friend Mthobisi Maduma(37) after a case of theft was opened by a local butchery business owner. According to a preliminary investigation it emerged that the missing car that was taken away from the businessman was carrying a lot of beef meat. A regional local newspaper reports that Hlubi and Maduma collaborated in stealing the night and distributing it around Newcastle after the car was taken away fron the local businessman. "What made things worse for Mandla was the fact that the nearby Ingogo Police station was investing the high rise in cow theft in the area. They established from the local residents that Mandla with his friend Mthobisisi around selling red meat to the locals. They than came up with a plan to tail him and it did worked for them as he was caught with the read meat stocked in his fridge," said the source. "There is a group of police officers which does not care. The crime in Ingogo and Newcastle is currently high when it comes to cows theft. They have formed a team to fight direct the rise of cow theft. When Mandla was arrested, a lot of meat was found inside his deep freezer which later his partner in crime confessed that the other meat was sold to the locals and some local business and then keep.some of it," the source said. KZN Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the police officer and his friend were arrested last on charges of theft and obstructing the police work. "They appeared in Newcastle Magistrate but.they will he going back to court on Monday to apply for their bail. The suspects were facing theft charges and defeating the long arm of the law," he said.
