They have had an ongoing "beef" for years. Their love-hate relationship sometimes divided Hip-Hop music lovers. Artists Refiloe "Cassper Nyovest" Phoolo and Kiernan "AKA" Forbes often fought publicly, and a few times physically. Lemons rapper once slapped Cassper at a Johannesburg nightclub and once at the SA Hip Hop Awards in full view of everyone. On a few occasions, Cassper did not retaliate or fight back but requested they monetize the beef by having a sponsored boxing match. They once exchanged words in song when AKA released his diss track Composure and Cassper, Dust 2 Dust. In his last days, AKA said he had been in a good place. In recent events, AKA shared a video at a nightclub singing along to Cassper and Kwesta's song Ngud' which gave their fans hope that one day they would get along.
AKA AND CASSPER BEEF
Yet Cassper still insisted on having the boxing match with AKA, who once greed to a boxing match with Cassper but backed down. The Siyathandana artist has been hoping the fight would happen. But this will never see the light of day after AKA and friend Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane were gunned down outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. Both stars were killed during an embrace where two gunmen opened fire around 10:30 PM.
SHOW LOVE
Cassper has since shared his words of condolences to both the Forbes and Motsoane families. "My sincere condolences go out to Kiernan and Tebello's families, colleagues, and fans. May their souls rest in peace and their legacies be celebrated. May the Good lord be with all of you at this sad time." He went on to urge all his fans to show love and support during this tough time. "To all my fans, pls send all your love to the Megacy and family. The nation is mourning and could use more love and less evil."
TIGHTENING UP SECURITY
Cassper recently opened up to ZiMoja about having to upgrade his security following a close friend's death. DJ Sumbody was shot several times while driving from one event to the other. The Iyamemeza singer's death has made him beef up his security. "It's not safe man. I have been ignorant for a very long time and DJ Sumbody's death woke me and made me realise that we are not safe. His death really f%&ked me up," he told ZiMoja. "I am always walking around with expensive jewellery; I can't afford to put my life at risk and tempt people. I also need to remember who I am; I am Cassper Nyovest. I am not just some normal guy who can just walk around freely. I would love to live like that, walk around the streets, and not be recognised, but I am not that guy. Someone made me realise that this is not the way to go, and Sumbody's death made me aware that, I need to be safe and remember who I am. We spend a lot of money on stupid things, so why not invest in security and knowing that wherever I move, I am a bit safer, and everything is controlled."
