Well known Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, who is the leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering, has vowed not to set foot ever again in South Africa. The revelation came during an exclusive interview with Times Television in Malawi where Bushiri likened his escape from South Africa like fleeing a burning house. "When the house is burning and somebody manages to walk out of the burning house, if you ask the person how he got out he would say he doesn't know. I don't know how I managed to come out. There was fire in South Africa, how I came out of it I don't know. Whether you call it a miracle I don't know. When God wants to save his people , he has his way of saving his people,:" says adding, "We have many people who are from Somalia here, they didn't have to tell their country that they were leaving because there was a war. When your life is threatened you don't go mentioning that you are leaving. There was no need for me to come and say I'm leaving when I know that the same people who want to kill me are using state resources to arrest me. I had reported to the people and gave them evidence, opened cases that there were people who wanted to kill me.
CRIMINAL CHARGES
Bushiri and his wife Mary escaped South Africa in November 2020 after they were out on bail facing the charges of money laundering, rape, two counts of fraud. He denied all charges. "They have already shown that there will be no fair trial in South Africa. Just two days ago they arrested my lawyers. My lawyers have sent me letters informing me that they won't be representing me in future. They have also arrested my private investigator who I.had hired to investigate them. How do you do that?" asked the Major One as he is affectionately known.
ARREST OF HIS LAWYERS
When Bushiri arrived in Malawi in 2020, he vowed to come back to South Africa if the country guaranteed his safety. "We went to court and each time we went for trial, they kept postponing for two years. Now you have to know the people who arrested me are the same people I had opened cases against. When I saw this unfairness happening I tried to go to the Constitutional Court but they denied even to hear me out. My life is under threat and I'll have unfair trial. It's quite shocking how these police officers are being protected. It makes me lose respect for the South African judiciary system. Two days ago they arrested my lawyers, if I go to South Africa who will represent me? You saw ministers making funny comments about Bushiri and the whole minister interferes with the whole system and even lied about Bushiri and his wife having five passports," he said.
BUSINESS AS USUAL
Bushiri may be on the run from.South African authorities, but he is currently building an expensive hotel complex in the eastern city of Mangochu on the shores of Lake Malawi, Goshen City, due to open in October which will comprise of a hotel , lodge, school, a clinic, apartments, a chapel, a.church, a business park and a sports arena.
