Lamlani, one of the three Sibiya brothers who killed his parents and brother

The family of the three brothers who killed their parents will spend the rest of their lives in prison. Phetheyakhe Sibiya and his wife Thembisile were gunned down in March 2020 by their three sons in order to get his two minibus taxis plus a van, 18 cows and 48 goats. Philani (38), Zakhe(42) and Lamlani (27) from Ngudwini, north of KwaZulu Natal, were sentenced to two life imprisonment plus 15 years by the Durban Central Magistrate Court on Friday for murdering their parents.

KILLING THEIR BROTHER FOR BEING A WITNESS

As if murdering their parents was not enough, the three were also accused of killing their older brother Mabutho (43) who was killed last year when he was attending their court case. Mabutho became a state witness against his brothers since he was present at home when the three shot and killed their parents. Mabutho had told the court on how.his brothers arranged for the killing of their father to inherit his assets.

REFUSING TO SPOIL HIS KIDS

Speaking to Zimoja Lezinto, their younger sister Nelisiwe said that as much as she is happy that his brothers will rot in jail but the sentence will not bring back her parents and older brother. "They deserve everything that is.coming in their way. They killed my parents because they wanted to take over my fathers businesses. My father did everything for them, even when they failed him and never finished  high school. We are left with nothing as the taxis were stolen after the death of my father. We are now left with two cows, even the goats are all gone," she said. Nelisiwe said that his brothers wanted her father dead because he was refusing to give them everything in a silver platter. "My father took care of them but they decided to kill him for his own things. They were losers whom my father tolerated since he gave birth to them. Instead of working hard to be their own family men, they saw it fit to eliminate my parents. On the.day of the incident they shot my father pretending that it was a robbery gone wrong. When my father survived the attack they finished him off in front of my mother who saw them. They also shot her in the head and killed her just because she had witnessed the shooting. They went and threatened my older brother not to say a word about what they'd done. They were arrested after our brother told investigators about how my brothers planned the murder of my father for his assets. We are happy with the judgment but it is painful that I had to attend the court proceedings all by myself since the family was divided over this issue," she said. Nelisiwe further said it's painful that her older brother ,Mabutho, was killed for standing up for their parents. "As much as it is not okay to accept that he is no more but he did right by exposing my brothers ruthlessness. They deserve to rot in jail," she concluded
