The community of Mzumbe in the Zululand District of KwaZulu Natal is still shocked after a brother stabbed to death his sister, after accusing her of witchcraft. Hlengiwe Ntini was stabbed to death on Saturday morning by her brother after they had a physical fight on Friday night.As if stabbing her to death was not enough, it is alleged that he slit her throat in front of her two-year old child.

TRYING TO UNDERSTAND

Their older brother Sanele told ZiMoja that he was trying to understand why his younger brother killed Hlengiwe. "I was not around when the incident happened. I was called by my cousins to inform me that my brother had killed Hlengiwe and accused her of bewitching him. He told our neighbours that everything was not going well for him because our sister was bewitching him and did not want to see him succeed. That's one thing I don't understand because Hlengiwe is our sister, she was looking over this family home while we are away working. I don't know if I will ever forgive my brother for taking the life of our sister. What he did is inhuman and barbaric. Why didn't he call a family meeting and table whatever issues that he had against our sister instead of killing her like this?"

ASHAMED TO CALL HIM THEIR BROTHER

Sanele added, "I'm even ashamed to call him my brother, he's an animal who doesn't deserve to get out of jail. I have a lot of questions that I need him to answer. I am not sure when but I am waiting for my younger brother to come back.home so that we can go visit him in jail and get answers from him so we can get clarity why he did what he did. This is inhumane and I don't know how am I going to face him. My parents must be turning in their graves about this incident. He has brought us unbearable pain."

PASSING

Sanele further said that the passing away of Hlengiwe has divided the family."What is more painful is the fact that the two year old child saw everything. My neighbours found the child crying in Hlengiwe's room. The child was crying and trying to wake the mother. This is picture that will never go away from that child." Sanele added that his brother was arrested on the spot on Saturday morning. KZN SAPS Spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident. "Msinsini Police have arrested 34-year old man for fatally stabbing his sister on 25 March at Maphumile area. He is expected to appear in court today at Turton Magistrate's Court. The motive for the killing is unknown," he said.
