The community of Bhongweni in East London in the Eastern Cape is still traumatised after a man abducted the child of his girlfriend and slit her throat. According to a neighbour, Tina Cetane, who witnessed everything, the man had an argument with his girlfriend after she dumped him. "They were fighting in front of the everyone and seemed to be drunk. This was followed by him manhandling the child. I've never seen something like that in my life. He was handling him like a puppy," she said.
HE SEEMED ANGRY AND VIOLENT
Cetane said when they witnessed what was happening along with other neighbours, they called out the community for help.
"Members of the community called cops as we were scared to come close to that person. He seemed angry and very violent as he manhandled the child. We begged him to let go of the child but our plea fell on deaf ears. The mother of the child was nowhere to be seen until she was informed that the child had died," she said.
SLITTING HIS THROAT
Eastern Cape SAPS spokesperson Priscilla Naidu confirmed that the incident did take place.
"A 37 year old man was arrested yesterday afternoon at the crime scene where the body of a three-year old boy was found in bushes in Bhongweni location. It is alleged that the suspect (who is the boyfriend to the child's mother) went to the house of the mother and fetched the child, Sinobom Tywantsi, who was playing with other children at the time. He took the child to nearby bushes and allegedly slit his throat," said Naidu.

A PATERNITY ISSUE
Naidu further said that the community members who saw him going into the bushes, immediately contacted the police.
"They found the suspect with the deceased child. A blood stained knife was found. It is further alleged that the motive for the brutal murder is suspected to be a paternal issue. The man was arrested on a charge of murder and is expected to appear in court soon," said Naidu.
