It seems as if the fight between the Radical Ecominic Transformation (RET) and the Thuma Mina Brigade is far from over after the announcement that former ANCWL Bathabile Dlamini has been disqualified to enter the race to be in the NEC. Dlamini, who is known to be a staunch supporter of the former ANC and South African president Jacob Zuma, was disqualified by the ANC electoral committee chaired by Kgalema Motlanthe.
ADVERSE INFO
In a statement sent to the media, Dlamini was disqualified as a contestant to be a member of the party's NEC. In a letter to Dlamini, Motlanthe said she is a convict and as such, the ANC constitution is clear that such people cannot contest for positions. "The verifying process as conducted by the agency of the Electoral Committee known as elections has revealed information which negatively affects your eligibility to stand for a nomination as a candidate for all NEC positions during the 55th National Congress."
HISTORY OF A SERIOUS CRIME
The Electoral Committee said that Dlamini has a historical record of being found guilty of a serious crime in a court of law and which a prison sentence had been more than six months. "To be specific, you are summarily disqualified for all NEC positions including additional members during the 55th National Conference as per the following rules which have been approved by the NEC. Rule 4.1 which states that the ANC expects the highest ethical and moral standards from the NEC members. Any member can stand to be a member of the NEC if they have been a member for 10 years or more. Unless you are prohibited from standing by one of the rules below.4. 2. No one may contest ANC elections for leadership if they have been found guilty or have been charged with unethical or immoral conduct or any serious crime or corruption. A serious crime is defines by the electoral committee as a crime that may result to prison sentence of more 6 months or more. We therefore regret to inform you that you have been disqualfied from being nominated to any NEC position," the statement reads.
