Barcadi music pioneer Vusi Ma R5 died after he was allegedly gunned down in the early hours of Monday morning after performing at a club in Soshanguve outside Pretoria.
GUNNED DOWN
Vusi Ma R5 whose real name is Itumeleng Mosoeu was allegedly shot and killed after his performance at a club called Legentsheng in Soshanguve. According to close sources who were present at the venue, Vusi passed away in a hail of bullets just outside the club. "He received a call and minutes later he left the venue. He was shot multiple times outside the club and was declared dead at the scene" a reliable source told ZiMoja.
CONFIRMING THE NEWS
Ina statement, Tribal Records confirmed the news of VusiMa R5's passing. "Artist named Itumeleng "Vusi Ma R5' Mosoeu allegedly ran into an unfortunate incident that led to his untimely passing in the early hours of Monday morning, 30 January". He added that details surrounding the musician's death could not be disclosed as they were still being investigated. "The Mosoeu family and Tribal Records management have kindly asked for privacy and respect during this time of grieving and will release a statement in due course," the statement said adding that details of the funeral and memorial service will be confirmed."
SECOND ARTIST TO BE KILLED
Bacardi's death comes only two months after a fellow Pretoria artist DJ Sumbody was murdered, In November last year, Amapiano artist DJ Sumbody was killed in a drive-by shooting together with his bodyguard in Woodmead, Johannesburg. He was returning from an event in Johannesburg. "It seems as if their deaths are related, we will wait for the police investigations," It is a sad moment for the Bacardi fraternity as he was one of the founders of this genre," the source said.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)condemned the senseless killing of Vusi maR5 who is known for hits such as Thaba Ke Chengitse and Tse nnyane. "The music industry today is awoken to yetanother senseless murder, which continues to rob South Africa of its home grown music producers. We call on law enforcement agencies to act decisively and apprehend the murderers of Vusi Ma R5,' the statement said.
POLICE LOOKING FOR SUSPECTS
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the police in Akasia are investigating a case of murder.
"On 30 January 2023 at approximately 1am, the police were called to a shooting incident whereby a 34-year-old man was found lying next to the road with gun shot wounds. According to reports, the victim was sitting with his friends outside a tavern at ext 13 in Soshanguve when he went across the road to the car. The other allegedly just heard gun shots and when they went to investigate they found the victim lying on the ground. No suspects arrested," Sello said. She added that the police requests anyone who may have information about the incident to please contact their nearest station.
