After almost losing both her legs in a freak accident last year, former Miss South Africa Kerishnie Naicker has made huge progress. The former beauty queen and SABC 1 continuity presenter got injured when she accidentally tripped from a top floor by a tourist who was taking a selfie in Cape Town.

SHE CAN NOW WALK EVEN THOUGH HER BALANCE IS STILL POOR
She recently posted videos of herself walking on her Instagram page and shared her progress with her followers. Naicker, who spent four months in the hospital and some time in a rehabilitation hospital, showed good progress. "It has been 8 months since the surgery, and while I may not have a full range of motion yet, I’m deeply grateful for God’s mercy and grace. I felt privileged to be able to stand. Walking again, albeit in baby steps, is a gift." During the time she was recuperating, she chose not to make her injuries public until she saw progress in her health status.
ACCIDENT TOOK PLACE AT THE LIGHTHOUSE
The incident took place while on the stairs from the lighthouse at Cape Point. She explained how the accident happened then. "She (the tourist) walked backward into me, tripping me down two steps. She tried to get the lighthouse in focus and took one step too far," she shared. Naicker was rushed to Netcare Hospital by helicopter. She spent almost four months in the hospital while recovering. With the update she had shown both her local and international fans and Instagram followers, they have also been happy with the progress she made. Meanwhile, last year Naicker shared some tips on how to enjoy public spaces without harming others. She said people must remember not to take photos at the peril of others or themselves, be observant, cognisant of their surroundings, and be situationally aware. She warned, "Too many people are dying while taking selfies and recording reels, and others are getting injured and killed by their negligence. Let’s live and embrace reality that to be obsessed with social media and forgetting what truly matters. It could have been worse," she wrote.
