The 2022 launch of Quick Face beauty range by the award-winning TV host Ayanda Thabethe and her celebrity make-up artist sister Lungile Thabethe has not met the expectations they had hoped for. The Quick Face make up range, which is available exclusively at Mr Price, has been slashed from its original price of R0000 to an affordable R000
A BEUTY FLOP
A source close to the situation said the retail giant is trying to get rid of the product because they did not do well in the market. "They thought because it is Ayanda Thabethe the product would move," added the source. Another source says it is just a matter of time before the product is discontinued. "She hardly markets her business, it is always about her lifestyle and travels but not her business," the source said.
INTENTIONALL BRANDS
The Thabethe sisters are competing with international brands from big fashion cities like New York, London and Paris, which are endorsed by international models. During their launch, Mr Price was excited for working with the Thabethe siblings. The clothing and fashion store is not giving up on promoting the brand with the slashed price. On their website they said: "Not a fan of having countless products in your makeup bag? Girl, us too! That’s why we jumped at the opportunity to collaborate with Ayanda & Lungile Thabethe when they said they want to redefine how we all approach everyday makeup. This range is simplified to save you time while still giving that full glow in 7 simple steps with beauty must-haves starting from R49.99." After the launch, Ayanda promoted their beauty product on her Facebook page when the sisters made the cover page of Mr Price magazine, Glamour - The Party Issue - December 2022/January 2023. She wrote:" Mr Price X Quick Face X Glamour is here. We’re so excited to be the official cover girls for the December / Jan issue. "This issue particularly feels like a full circle moment because it is one that honours diverse and talented women who are formidable in their fields, the busy women on the go we had in mind when creating the Quickface 7-step makeup routine. "Head to a retailer near you to pick up your issue from Monday, 28 November 2022 or download the digital issue now. #mrpricexquickface." The sisters hyped the product as: "Created for beauty lovers who don’t have the luxury of spending hours doing make-up, Quick Face is a seven-step range designed to simplify a make-up routine and give the ultimate soft glam look in one bag, on the go." They added: "The range consists of a hydration mist, which works as both a primer and setting spray. It also has a 3-in-1 concealer pallet for contour and concealing." The translucent powder used for baking and setting the skin? is designed to give a long-lasting look.
FUTURE IS NOT SOO BRIGHT
It is not clear if the Thabethe sisters will continue to distribute their product with with Mr Price after the slashing of their beauty product.
A fashion fundus who did not want to be identified for fear of reprisals, said: "The Thabethe sisters must be congratulated for even putting their beauty product at a shop like Mr Price that distributes countrywide. "The problem they didn?t forsee is that the low earning consumers hardly buy beauty products. They still prefer to buy from Mr Price because they have reasonable prices on their clothing."
