Following the arrest of the controversial former Umkhondo municipality mayor, Vusi Motha and his friend Sifiso Sangweni, who owns Wellington Security Company, another suspect was nabbed on Wednesday in Umbumbulu in the south of KwaZulu Natal. ANC Councillor Sibonelo Mthembu Ntshangase, his friends Sandile Khumalo and Sizwe Mbingo were ambushed and gunned down at Longhomes township outside Mkhondo.
THE CHARGES
Motha is facing charges of being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition while Sangweni is facing a charge of providing a firearm and ammunition to a person not authorised to carry it. The police said Motha and Sangweni supplied the guns that were used to commit murders. The suspect (40) who was arrested on Wednesday is facing charges of murder. He will appear in court next Tuesday together with Motha and Sangweni. Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane applauded the cops on their swift reaction to arrest a third suspect. She went on to say they are hope that more arrests will be made soon. "We are sick and tired of these ongoing political killings," she said.
DODGY CHARACTER
Members of the ANC in the Gert Sibande Region in Mpumalanga once opened a case of theft against their top five leadership accusing them of stealing R500 000 during the purchase of ANC offices in 2018. The five accused ANC members includes Motha and former Member of Parliament Jabulani Dube. Mthembu-Ntshangase. The latter posted a videoclip on Facebook last year November where he accused Motha of killing ANC members. In a video clip Mthembu- Ntshangase is heard saying: "Comrades we are in crisis. At Mkhondo we are facing a corrupt person called Sgemegeme. He is killing us now and the reason he is killing us is that we stood up and said he didn't do anything for Mkhondo. I want you the to know that if I am murdered, I would have been killed by Vusi Motha. He recently killed another member. He behaves as if Mkhondo is his personal house but it's not his house and that will never happen. We are going to die and leave behind our young children."
