Another lion is on the loose in Gauteng. This is the fourth wild cat that escaped from captivity in the past few months, including a tiger named Sheba in Walkerville, another in Edenvale and a lion in North West two weeks ago, which was subsequently shot dead.
SPOTTED
Strategic Response Unit (SRU) an Animal rescue organisation has confirmed that another lion is on the loose in Gauteng. The big cat was reportedly spotted along the R511 near the Hennops Hiking Trail in Pretoria. Arthur Crewe from SRU said. "The lion was spotted around 2am by a security response officer on Wednesday on the R511. We had a second sighting, so it is confirmed a lion,' Crewe said.
NOT CLAIMED
Crewe said there was no confirmation of where the animal has escaped from. "The authorities have been in contact on the North West side with some of the facilities to give a head count on their animals and Gauteng is doing exactly the same. So, at this point in time, we do not even know the origins of this animal,' Crewe said. He added that they are currently busy tracing the animal using drones. Crewe has urged people to call authorities when they spot the missing animal.
