Plans to appoint ANC Treasury Paul Mashatile as the deputy president ofthe country are underway. Mashatile was nominated by his party to become amember of parliament and he is expected to replace Tshilidzi Munyai whorecently resigned from the national assembly.
?REPLACEMENT
In a letter addressed to secretary of the ANC Fikile Mbalula dated 30January 2023, National Assembly secretary Masibulele Xaso informed him thatMashatile will become a member of the national assembly with effect fromFebruary 1, 2023. The letter reads: "I refer to your letter addressed tothe Speaker dated 30 January 2023 nominating Paulos Shipokosa Mashatile to fillthe seat that will become vacant due to the resignation of T.B Munyai witheffect from 1 February 2023," The letter further said necessaryarrangements would be made for the swearing in of Mashatile as the MP and thatrelevant divisions will be informed accordingly.
RESHUFFLING
Mashatile was nominated as the ANC Deputy President during the 55th ANC National Conference that was held in Nasrec in Johannesburg in December. Reports stated that ANC deputy president David Mabuza has offered to resign to clear the way for Mashatile. Presidemt Ramaphosa is also expected to reshuffle his cabinet soon. Ramaphosa will have to replace Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula, who has taken the post of ANC secretary-general, a full time position at Luthuli House and Public Service and Administration Minister Ayanda Dlodlo, who joined the World Bank last year. Mbalula has promised to resign at the end of February.
