AmaZulu Football Club players have been shocked to the core. ZiMoja has learned that Usuthu management has already told that their players that their salaries will be cut, especially the highest paid personnel. The salary cuts will cut across the junior and senior members.
NOT BRINGING ENOUGH MONEY
A source said the team, which is owned by Durban businessman, Sandile Zungu, is not doing well financially, despite their financial injection from long-term sponsors, Spar. The team, which is coached by Spanish tactician, Pablo Franco, had not done well since the start of the season. On Saturday, AmaZulu scored first against SuperSport United, and Matsatsantsa equalized later on. A fortnight ago, they knocked out their cross-town rivals Royal AM in local derby in the Nedbank Cup, last 32. Some of the players are hoping that when they play against Sekhukhune United on Thursday, they might get bonuses when they win the last 16 Nedbank tie. AmaZulu had been under the ownership of businessman Dr Patrick Sokhela between 2005 to 2020.
Then Zungu took ownership of the team immediately after that. A source said the Sokhela had got wind that Zungu is struggling to keep the team afloat, so they may may the DStv Premiership club back. The Sokhela family reportedly ventured into a new booming business property development project in 2022. They had hoped to woo investors in a project of a tune of R76 billion on the North Coast of KwaZulu-Natal.
