The marriage between e.tv's The Morning Show and eNCA only lasted for four days. Insiders at eNCA say that the channel started making ridiculous demands a day after the simulcast started.
BLACK PRESENTERS TOLD NOT USE VERNACULAR
An insider reveals that presenters were told to stop mixing English with vernacular to accommodate the channel's white viewers. The production company was also asked to add a white presenter among other demands made."The Morning Show which turns 5 on Sunday, has successfully delivered great content that speaks to its audience without fail. This is the reason eNCA approached and asked for a simulcast in an attempt get more numbers in the morning,' an insider told ZiMoja..
NEW STRATEGY BACKFIRED
The move backfired on the channels and as a result, this angered viewers of both channels, e.tv and eNCA. Some viewers have threatened to switch either to Newzroom Afrika or the SABC's Morning Live. The show added more presenters to their lineup as the simulcast meant the show was going to be live seven days a week. Broadcaster, Faith Mangope and former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo joined the show's seasoned presenters Nelisiwe Mmape, Kgosi Rankhumise, Bolele Polisa and Obakeng Ngobeni. It's not clear if the two will still be part of the show.
TRYING TO ATTRACT A NEW AUDIENCE AND VIEWERSHIP
Before the saga came out in the open on Thursday, eNCA had come up with a plan of bringing in new audiences and increasing advertising. But Thinus' tweet ruffled the channel's feathers. He wrote, "Useless rubbish and a huge disaster: Shocked and angry DStv subscribers slam eNCA saying they're switching to Newzroom Afrika and SABC's Morning Live over decision to simulcast etv's 'totally poor and amateurish' The Morning Show. To save face, eNCA made an announcement on social media yesterday that The South African Morning with Gareth Edwards will be back on air today. When called for comment, Cheeky Media PR on behalf of the channels said: "Unfortunately we cannot engage media on this matter as we are dealing with it internally. We will release a statement in due time.'
