There is a dark cloud hanging over the head of Advocate Malesela Daniel Teffo as he might find himself removed from the Legal Practice Council of South Africa for life. Zimoja is in possession of court papers where Teffo is arguing that the council was unfair towards him. He goes as far as labelling it a kangaroo court. According to the court papers filed at the High Court of South Africa, under the Gauteng Division in Pretoria, between The Legal Council and Teffo back in August, Teffo complains that the council is being unfair towards him and they want to remove him from legal council unaware. "On the 4th and 5th of August 2022, Adv Malesela attended a so called Legal Practice Hearing resembling the kangaroo court proceedings taking place in Pretoria allegedly under auspices of the South African Legal Practice Council. It is therefore important to make these submissions and they must be taken into consideration prior to the issuing or delivery of the judgment. Then two presiding officers in the kangaroo court ashamedly seen on television overcame by emotions whereby they stood up and left the court room while i was busy making submissions for their consideration," the papers reads.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST
The proceedings were presided over two judges, Judge Nyathi and Judge Bokako, of the Gauteng Division. Teffo said he felt vindicated that the two judges carried the mandate of their two bosses, namely deputy judge from Pretoria and Johannesburg Moses Ledwaba and Sutherland. He further suggested that the hearing should have been moved to another province instead. "My constitutional rights were violated by these two judges. The hearing should have been moved to another province Mpumalanga or Limpopo to avoid the conflict of interest," the paper's reads.
UNPOPULAR CROSS EXAMINATION STYLE
There is never a dull moment when it comes to Teffo. Many people came to know about Teffo as the defence advocate representing four suspects accused of killing Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa in 2014. Teffo's cross-examination of the witness made him unpopular with the judge and the South African public, especially after he made remarks that the judge was bewitching him. As if that was not enough Teffo further came under a lot criticism after he went public and said he was no longer going to represent the four accused in the Senzo Meyiwa case but later changed his tune.
FULL OF DRAMA
Two weeks ago Sinqobile Mbatha, a relative of one of the accused, who had appointed Teffo shared a video where she was distancing herself and the four accused on the Senzo Meyiwa case from being represented by him as they claim he has too much drama. They appointed another lawyer to represent them. According to Mbatha, Teffo is a good person but it was a good decision to remove him from the Meyiwa case. "They want to remove him from the Legal Council of South Africa. He's badly tainted and I had to make a decision for our families," she said. Mbatha told Zimoja that she met Teffo through the Meyiwa family after she posted about video complaining about the cops sacrificing the four accused in the on going court case. "He traced me through the Meyiwas and trust me I believed in him before he pulled these stunts in court. Over and above everything going on, all I can tell you is that Teffo is a family man with two kids. He's married and loves his family," said Mbatha. Zimoja tried to trace down the famous advocate to share more about himself and his background in the legal fraternity from Thursday and committed to an interview yesterday evening but to no avail.
