Generations actress Sonwabisile 'Soso' Rungqu has left Generations The Legacy. ZiMoja can exclusively reveal that Soso who played Zanele, a senior and tough detective on the soapie since February 2021 has crossed the floor.
REASONS BEHIND HER DEPARTURE
A close source revealed that Soso will be playing a leading role in the highly anticipated star-studded telenovela on eTV. "She got an offer she could not resist; she has always wanted to play a leading role and this opportunity came at the right time' the source said. ZiMoja has also learnt that the former Moja LOVE presenter has started shooting. According to the source, Soso bagged the role last year and spoke to her bosses at Generations The Legacy to write her character out until she is done with her new role. She has reportedly signed a one-year contract with the station. "I know she has a longer and better contract, and she is very excited to be joining the new cast,' adds the source.
NOT MUCH IS KNOWN ABOUT HER NEW ROLE
Nothing much is known about her new role, but ZiMoja can reveal that the telenovela will start playing in March. "They started shooting in January, it is going to be exciting, not sure because of the cast,' says the source. Efforts to reach the actress for a comment drew a blank as her phone rang unanswered. Generations executive's producer Costas Gavriel confirmed to ZiMoja that the actress has left the show amicably. "She got a lead in another production. She will come back when she is done '' He confirms that her agent asked in December 2022 if the star could be written out of the time being. "We did not write her off. Producers and writers wrote her out so she could pursue her career as a lead in another production,' explained Costas.
ROSE TO FAME
Soso stole viewers' hearts when she first appeared in our small screens in 2016 when she rose to prominence as 'Kau Morongwa' on Isidingo. She continued to play the role until 2018 where she quit from the show to look after her ailing father.
