Dr Lydia Meshoe, the wife of African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) leader Reverend Kenneth Meshoe has died, the party confirmed.
She was the co-founder and president of the Women of Destiny and an NEC member. Dr Meshoe also served as the party's Gauteng provincial leader and as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
A WOMAN OF PRINCIPLE
In a statement, the party described her as a graceful woman who always stood by her husband.
"Ma Lydia set an example to the women of South Africa in the way in which she served and supported our President, Rev. Kenneth Meshoe since the inception of the ACDP in 1993. She fought the good fight and finished the race while keeping the faith. As the President of the Women of Destiny, she played a major role in empowering and uplifting women across South Africa," said the party.
CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY
The party said they were in disbelief of her passing but acknowledged that she had run her race and left a mark. "We send our prayers and heartfelt condolences to the ACDP President, Rev Kenneth Meshoe and his family, and encourage ACDP structures to lift the family up in prayer during this time of bereavement." The couple had been married in 1976 and have three children together.
Details of the memorial and funeral have not been released.
