A special NEC meeting on the cards for today to address the report

The Independent Panel into Farmgate has revealed their findings and things are not looking rosy for the President

The ANC acting Secretary General and Deputy President nominee Paul Mashatile has apparently called for a special NEC meeting today in light of the Phala Phala report. The meeting was initially meant to take place on the 9th of December but it has now been fast forwarded to tomorrow. The meeting comes after the findings by Section 89 Independent Panel on the Phala Phala Farm Scandal. The panel led by retired Judge Sandile Ngcobo found that President Cyril Ramaphosa may have committed a serious violation of the law and serious misconduct in terms of the Constitution.

SERIOUS VIOLATION

The panel recommended that in light of all information placed before them, they can conclude that the president may have committed serious violation of Section 96, serious violation of section 34 of Precca, serious violation misconduct in that the president violated Section 92 by acting in a way that is inconsistent with his office, serious misconduct in that the President violated section 96 by exposing himself to a situation involving a conflict between his official responsibilities and his private business of the Constitution.

FACING THE LAW

It is alleged that the meeting will take place later today. Attempts to get comment from ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe proved fruitless as his phone rang unanswered. Yesterday the Presidency noted that the report was submitted to the Speaker of the National Assembly by the independent panel established in terms of Section 89 of the Constitution. In a statement the Presidency appreciated that according to the rules of the National Assembly, the National Assembly needs to consider the report and determine the most appropriate way forward. "The Section 89 process has presented an unprecedented and extraordinary moment for South Africa's constitutional democracy. The conclusions of the panel requires careful reading and appropriate consideration in the interest of the stability of government and that of the country," the statement reads. The statement further reads: "President Ramaphosa reiterates the statement he made in his submission to the independent panel: "I have endeavoured, throughout my tenure as President, not only to abide by my oath but to set an example of respect for the Constitution, for its institutions, for due process and the law. I categorically deny that I have violated this oath in any way, and I similarly deny that I am guilty of any of the allegations made against me." The President is giving consideration to the report and an announcement will be made in due course," reads the statement released by Vincent Magwenya, the president's spokesperson. A media briefing that was scheduled by the presidency today has been postponed indefinitely.Following the released of the panel recommendations, opposition parties are now baying for Ramaphosa's head as they want him to face the wrath of law.
