A gangster on TV and an angel in real life

On Uzalo Sandile Cedric Mfusi Jnr, who plays Kwanda, is a notorious gangster and a player but in real life he is nothing but a gentleman. That is why many were taken by surprise to find out that he has been nominated for ,not just one but two Crown Gospel Awards. Speaking to Zimoja the 33-year-old says he is grateful for the recognition and being nominated for Best Newcomer and Best Video.“I'm beyond happy. It feels good to be recognised by your industry peers, being nominated twice means am doing something good- I feel like a winner already “ he says.

FROM HIP HOP TO INSPIRATIONAL MUSIC

Masandi ,as she is known, is not a stranger to the music scene. He rose to fame in 2014 with his solo single project-titled, Bring it Back. The hit single attracted the attention of rapper K.O, who is also the co-founder of Cashtime Life. After a studio session with K.O., the hit single One Time was born.
“I feel I have evolved when it comes to music, from hip hop to now what I call inspirational music, “ he adds. His latest offering, Kaleidoscope, has been making waves topping the charts, which earned him the two nominations.
“This project has amassed over 750K streams across platforms and proves how valuable tapping into different parts of your creativity can be,” he says, adding that
in Kaleidoscope, he explores his spirituality, an avenue he didn't in the past
"Many people are not aware that gospel has always been part of my foundation as a son of a pastor."

SURVIVING A CAR ACCIDENT

It wasn’t until he survived a car accident that Masandi considered this genre of music more intimately. " Ithemba was released in 2020, serving as a reminder to keep faith strong during trying times." He brags that he worked with the likes of gospel giants such as renowned producer Mojalefa “Mojakes “ Thebe.
"We worked on a track called  Ithemba Lam,  Ngibonga Wena and Noma Kunzima.
The music he makes now has also shifted who he is as an artist.The type of music I make now is more meaningful and has more substance than before. "When I’m within my creative process, I go a bit more deeper”
