He has been in the music industry for more than two decades and his discography speaks for itself. He has dabbled as music royalty and now kwaito legend and television personality Zwai Bala is excited to announce his upcoming music project Bala Voices to help groom aspiring talent.

MAKING STARS

Following the success of his family reality show, The Bala Family, Zwai is embracing on a creative chapter. Recently joining the judging panel for Clash of the Choirs SA Season Four, he is now working on new music that showcases his dedication to promoting African artists on a global stage. In collaboration with his sister, Thozama Pinky Bal,a fondly known as u Dabs we-Country (the country's auntie), Zwai is embarking on a siblings' project that aims to blend their distinct afro-sound with contemporary influence fused with gospel. This partnership will provide a strong foundation for Bala Voices, a unique vocal solution project focused on providing opportunities for aspiring singers from South Africa's diverse communities. "We started in our hometown, Uitenhage and Nelson Mandela Bay. Our long-term plan is to include other provinces, continental and international," he tells ZiMoja.

ALWAYS A TEACHER

Recognising the immense untapped talent that exists across has always been Zwai's passion and he has committed himself to helping the aspiring talent shine and kickstart their musical careers by establishing the First-Class African Vocal Performance Program. "It's always been important for me to hand down my knowledge as an experienced musician," he says, adding, "I have always been passionate about teaching; in fact, I am more passionate about teaching than performing. Maybe it was written by the Gods that I should experience all things and share them after. Even when I was a kid travelling, I couldn't wait to come back and share my experience."

WORKING WITH FAMILY

He will embark on the journey like he did on the reality show with his sister. He has always worked with family, and this has its pros and cons. "Working with family is really about how you set things up. I thought we had the Bala Family and after having a good run in the industry and we knew what business was and everyone had their journey, we'd be hiring. The structures and discipline should be there or else you create brats, there are many such examples," he says. "But this is an exciting time for me along with my sister. We are finally ready to set up the development and training of exceptionally talented singers who will be part of Bala Voices. We aim to empower through the gift of music while simultaneously working on our own musical creations." With Pinky's directorship, promising singers will undergo specialised training under Zwai's guidance using state-of-the-art techniques designed to propel these exceptional artists into sustainable careers in the music world.
