Former African National Congress (ANC) president, Jacob Zuma, will attend his disciplinary hearing at Luthuli House next Tuesday. Zuma is facing charges of contravening the ANC's constitution for campaigning for the MK Party as their face.
CHARGES
In a letter signed by the ANC's chief national presenter, Uriel Abrahamse, the ANC accuses Zuma of being guilty of contravening Rule 25.17.13 of the ANC Constitution by joining and supporting another political organisation. "On 16th December 2023 you addressed the Umkhonto We Sizwe Party (MKP) in Soweto and you called on all South Africans to join you in dislodging the ANC as the ruling party. You appeared on the list for public representatives of the Umkhonto We Sizwe Party (MKP), contrary to the rule because the MKP is not an organisation that is in alliance with the African National Congress (ANC),' the charge sheet read. Zuma ,who was suspended by the party in January, is still an ANC member even though he is currently leading the MK Party's candidate list to Parliament.
HE WILL BE AT THE DISCIPLINARY HEARING
MK spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela confirmed that the former ANC president will be available on Tuesday to face the charges. The announcement has caused a stir in the political arena with both parties gearing up for what is sure to be a highly charged encounter. "I can confirm that Zuma will attend the DC on Tuesday at Luthuli House. The MK party will also be there, and we will be there in full swing picketing outside their offices. We will be in Luthuli to show support to the incoming president of the country," he said. Ndhlela said that Zuma is not scared to face the ANC NDC. "The charges that have being brought against the former ANC president have not been made public, we have received the correspondence between the ANC NDC and the MK lawyers. We will be there is full force and we are not going there to fight or to cause unnecessary fights," he said.
