He has made his return to the music industry after almost a decade-long hiatus. Rapper Zuluboy, real name Mxolisi Brian Majozi released his song Mayibuye yesterday, the day of the national elections. "Mayibuye is a struggle song about liberation. We are celebrating 30 years of democracy and releasing it on the day of the elections is a political statement."
MUSIC FOR LIBERATION
He believes that democracy means having the right to be yourself. "I decided to use music in addressing political issues because music has been a huge part of the revolution and our liberation," he said. "It has just been part of who we are, even in the church, we use it as a tool to consciousitize the people. A lot of the music we hear on the mainstream doesn't build anyone. It's time, we make impactful music again addressing our issues."
JOINING MK
He has been at the forefront of promoting the newly formed uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MK) along with other celebrities Ernest Msibi, Khulu Skenjana and Felix Hlophe to name a few. "We created what we call uMkhonto Wesizwe Creatives - a group of intellectual artists influencing policies of governance in South Africa. We came together as artists fighting the Copyright Amendment Bill as it had the fair use clause. We then campaigned as the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party. We believe our party is the only one that will help artists and in this country."
