Singer Zanda Zakuza says she is taking a hiatus from the music scene after she was diagnosed with depression. She has since left the city of Gold for her parent's home in Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal. Zanda is known for being featured in Master KG's hits like Skeleton Moves and Khaya Lam.
According to Zanda, she decided to take a break from music after she was hospitalised and treated for depression and anxiety. Speaking to ZiMoja, Zanda said she could not take the pressure of Jozi and the entertainment scene anymore. "This industry was getting too toxic for me and I couldn't take it anymore. It was important for me to retreat and work on my mental health," she said. She adds that she needed a change of scenery and to be surrounded by genuine love from family and friends. "I only come to Jozi when I have a gig-it's a toxic place," Zanda said, adding that she was currently writing music to keep herself busy and alive. She said next year she will be back and as a better person. "I have a lot of music that I will be dropping and I might be joining a new record label," she revealed.
Zanda, who once received backlash for singing Nomcebo Zikode's part in the song Jerusalema during a European tour with Master KG, said the grass is not as green at Open Mic Productions. "I won't lie things are not as good as they look at Open Mic," she confirmed. According to an insider, Zanda felt neglected by the record label since it downsized in numbers. "She just felt like she needed to grow and develop herself as an independent artist. She has not been getting gigs and was struggling financially and that's why she decided to go back home to regroup and work on her craft all over again." The source said she left about two months ago because she could no longer maintain life in the big city
