The body of multi-award-winning singer Zahara whose real name is Bulelwa Mkutukwana is being transported back to her home province of the Eastern Cape. Her remains arrived at her house in Little Falls, Roodepoort early this morning before being taken to the OR Tambo International Airport where she will be flown to the Eastern Cape.

AN EMOTIONAL MOMENT

When her body arrived at her home in Roodepoort, distraught family members could be seen crying uncontrollably as her coffin was taken into the house. Her mother flew from the Eastern Cape to come and identify her before she could be flown to her ancestral home. Her family members also got a chance to view her body ahead of her funeral next weekend.

FAMILY, LOCAL ARTISTS AND HER CHURCH TO LEAD PRAYER SERVICE

The Eastern Cape Arts and Culture spokesperson Atule Joka confirmed that on arrival at the King Phalo Airport in East London, the family, local artists and her church will lead proceedings in prayer. The provincial Arts and Culture MEC Nonceba Kontsiwe said there was a planned provincial memorial service to be held in East London next week Friday. "Zahara's passing is a huge loss not only to the Eastern Cape arts and culture sector but to the broader society. Her music will forever linger in our hearts. Her guitar and her angelic voice left an incredible impact on South Africans," MEC Kontsiwe said. The singer will be buried on December 23 in her village of Phumlani.
