Zanu PF's main opposition party Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has called for 10 provinces in Zimbabwe to protest against President Emmerson Mnagangwa's second term in office.CCC demands a re-run of the elections claiming that the votes were rigged in favour of Mnagangwa.
A day after Mnagangwa emerged victorious, he warned people to stop spreading unfounded rumours about his win being invalid.
"I warn anybody who may want to bring any chaos in this country that we are ready.Whoever shall preach hate speech will be responsible for their hate speech, our prisons are not full,' he said. He emphasised that there were no irregularities and urged anyone with complaints to go to the courts.
Although the CCC has not lodged a formal legal complaint with the court, they've asked activists to launch online campaigns and expose voting irregularities.
"We are encouraging people to behave in a peaceful manner. The protests are up to the people. We just want their vote to find expression. We want other African countries to intervene and mediate,"said CCC spokesman Promise Mkwananzi.
After the elections Mkhwananzi said they cannot accept the results but had something planned, which they could not immediately reveal.
"Despite the overwhelming odds, the resilient Zimbabwean people came forward in vast numbers, casting their votes in the hope of a brighter and better future. However , ZEC declared their results and discrepancies have become glaringly apparent," Mkwananzi said.
Mnangagwa polled 52,6% votes whilst his opposition Citizens Coalition for Change party led by Nelson Chamisa came second with 44% of the votes.
The CCC has seven days from the results declaration to lodge a court appeal.
