Young woman shares how her friend betrayed her

Awethu Njomane seeks artificial leg.

She lost her leg to a gun shot two years ago and life has not been easy for Awethu Njomane from Cape Town. Njomane is now desperately in need of an artificial leg which she says will make her life a lot easier.

SHOT BY BEST FRIEND'S COUSIN

Njomane said that she finds herself in this situation because she was shot allegedly by her best friend's cousin in 2021. In a lengthy Facebook post, Awethu said she could afford the prosthetic leg as she is unemployed and so is her mother. "On the 12th of April 2021, I went to my friend' s birthday party. While we were still there at the party, the friend's cousin came out of the blue playing with a gun. We got scared especially when he pointed the gun at me. I couldn't hold my tears the way I was so terrified. He shot me on my thigh and the saddest part is that my best friend was standing there and watching me with other people that were invited to the party. They stood there and watched me for a while as I was lying down in pain. They stood there for about two hours watching me being bullied by the cousin," she said. She said she was finally taken to hospital, where she spent six months and had her leg amputated because of the damage caused by the bullet. Njomane further said that her former friend and the cousin took away all her bloodied clothes and burnt them to hide evidence as they thought she would not make it. "They even went to tell my mother that I was dead because I was in coma. They also told the police I was shot by unknown people, it's all a lie," she said.

SEEKING ARTIFICIAL LEG SPONSORSHIP

Njomane said that she lost her self-confidence since her leg was amputated. "You'd think I'm confident enough to go out but I'm not. Everyday I'm thinking about that day, I still hear the gun shots, I'm still having nightmares as they killed me inside. My soul is not at peace, I've been looking around for sponsors to donate an artificial leg. I'm not asking for money, all I'm asking for is the leg," she said. Anyone willing to sponsor or make a donation towards Njomane's prosthetic leg can inbox ZiMoja on any of the social media platforms.
