As the country continues to mourn the late film director and producer, Teboho Mahlatsi, he seems to have touched many people not only in his industry but politics as well. ZiMoja has learnt that before his passing, the Yizo Yizo creator was also working on a big political documentary.
WORKING ON EFF UPCOMING DOCUMENTARY
ZiMoja sources have confirmed that Kroonstad born was working with the popular political party EFF on what was meant to be their biggest project. ZiMoja has learnt that he was shooting an EFF documentary that will air on the day of the EFF's big anniversary celebration. The party will be celebrating its 10th anniversary at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on 29 July 2023. "Apparently it is one of the most powerful and compelling documentaries ever made," the source said, adding that the legendary filmmaker was super excited to work with EFF and it was a mutual attraction. "Although he was meant to keep it as a surprise until the big reveal, he would give us glimpses into the documentary, he was also fascinated and admired the EFF leadership. He would often rave about them, about how smart and hardworking they are," added the source.
THE NEWS OF THE DOCUMENTARY REMAINS MUM
Nothing much is known about the documentary apart from the fact that it was going to be unveiled just before there red berets's highly anticipated red berets rally. When called for comment, the Economic Freedom Fighters spokesperson, Leigh-Ann Mathys could not confirm or deny that Mahlatsi was working on the upcoming EFF documentary, instead, she sent a generic media statement. "The EFF is deeply saddened by the passing of talented and rising filmmaker Teboho Moseling Mahlatsi who was a giant and a trailblazer in the filmmaking industry, was 49 years of age and hailed from Maokeng, Kroonstad in the Free State. A quiet but committed professional, Mahlatsi created some of the most pioneering work in the South African film industry. At the time of his death, Mahlatsi was still rising. He was in the process of breaking ranks with the work that he had created, the legend he already was, and was about to create a new legacy for himself,' read the statement. Mahlatsi was also working on projects that were in the pipeline with other celebrities such as Minnie Dlamini who expressed her grief on social media. "I cannot believe that the man that shaped and revolutionised the South African film and TV industry, is gone!!! I was so excited about our project together it was not only a bucket list moment, but to be directed by the person that sparked my interest in SOUTH AFRICAN film was a dream come true," she wrote.
