Singer Thandi Nakampe Mokgoankgoa, famous for her hit single Xigubu by DJ Ganyani, is back in the limelight. Best known as Fiesta Black, she comes back as a radio host on the afternoon drive time show on Energy FM, a commercial radio station in Limpopo.
LEARNING FROM MISTAKES
Fiesta left the limelight after some bad publicity and accusations that Thembi Seete stole her song Thuntsha Lerole. She opened up, in an interview, about how she took "her fame' for granted and made some mistakes. "I thought I knew it all. I had arrived but little did I know that being a drama queen doesn't pay the bills.' Fiesta said her career took a serious knock. "No one booked me. I had a bad reputation and did some pretty shameful things. But it was all part of learning and growing up.' she said. During her decline, she said she abused alcohol. "It was no longer drinking for fun. I fell deep into alcoholism because I was depressed, It took me time to work my way out of that.' But she is now in a good place and is set to release two singles.
JOINING RADIO
She recently joined Limpopo radio station, Energy FM, with her show every Monday until Saturday from 15:00 until 18:00. "I love radio. It connects me with people and has revived my love for music,' Fiesta told ZiMoja. "I get to interact with fans every day and that keeps me motivated," she said. Being in Limpopo and working on radio has given her financial stability, something that is very refreshing and it's definitely opening up other opportunities for her. "I am gaining a whole lot of experience. I have even collaborated with a lot of artists and producers here at home working on great music and it has helped me to find myself again and what I love."
