The family of a man who was fatally stabbed allegedly by his lover in his sleep says they want justice for their brother. It's alleged that Sanele Cele (30) from KwaMachi in Harding, south of Durban in KwaZulu Natal (KZN) had an argument with his wife-to-be earlier that evening just a few hours before he was killed.
Sanele's older brother Njabulo (32) told ZiMoja that he received a call from their father in the early hours of Sunday morning asking him to go check on his brother at the hospital. "Our father informed me that Sanele was injured and that he had been stabbed. I quickly rushed to the hospital and when I arrived I was told that he had passed away and that he succumbed to a stab wound in the heart. It was like I was in a nightmare. I couldn't believe my brother was killed by a woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with," Njabulo said, adding that after the pain the woman caused the family, they wanted nothing to do with her. "How is she going to face us as a family after what she did to our brother? How can she kill the father of her child, worse in his sleep," he asked. He added that all they want now is to see justice prevail and for their new makoti rot in jail.
Sanele's sister Sihle (23) told ZiMoja that Sanele paid lobola for his fianc?e in March this year. "It has only been eight months since Sanele paid lobola but she was already trying to keep him away from the family. She was very manipulative and did not want him to be close to us. We have been noticing that she has been bossing him around, making sure that Sanele is staying away from us as his family," Sihle said. Njabulo added that when his brother paid lobola for the mother of his child, they thought they had gained a sister and not a murderer. "What makes matters worse is that they have a child together who will now grow up without both parents. "She planned this because we were told that Sanele was drunk on the day of the incident. We know Sanele does not like fighting especially when he is drunk. He will just sleep," said Njabulo. KZN SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed the incident. "KwaMakhutha police are investigating a case of murder after a man was stabbed to death, allegedly by his 24-year-old girlfriend after the two had an argument on Sunday, 12 November 2023 in the Ziko area. She will appear in court on a charge of murder on Wednesday," he said.
