A KwaZulu-Natal woman (36) handed herself over to the police for the alleged murder of her 69-year-old mother after hitting her with a hammer on the head.
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the mother and daughter from eNtshongweni area, in Hammarsdale, allegedly had an argument which resulted in the daughter taking a hammer and hitting her mother. "According to the suspect both mother and daughter slept together with the mother bleeding from her head injury. It is alleged that on Saturday morning at around 8.30am the daughter woke up to find that her mother had died," said Netshiunda.
He said the deceased night gown was soaked in a pool of blood.
According to Netshiunda upon realising that her mother was dead, the suspect went to Hammarsdale police station and told the police what had happened.
"Police at the scene seized the hammer and the gown. Police are investigating a case of murder. Reports indicate that the deceased had sustained multiple head injuries. The suspect was arrested."
Netshiunda said the woman will be transferred to Mpumalanga where she will face a charge of murder.
