Woman found dead at lodge after meeting with male friend from work

Funeka Mthiyane was found dead at a lodge after being seen with a male colleague

The family of a woman who was found murdered at Ntibane Lodge in Pinetown, Durban, wants answers. Funeka Mthiyane (23) from KwaMashu township allegedly went missing on Friday after she left her house around 10pm to go and meet with a male friend from work.

SENIOR AT HER WORKPLACE

Her aunt Nokuthula Ndlovu said they needed to know what really happened before Funeka was found deceased at the lodge, where she met up with the friend. "Funeka told her younger sister that she was going out to meet with a male friend and she even mentioned to her sister that the person she was going to meet was senior at her workplace. What is surprising is that Funeka's father knows the male friend in question since he also works in the same company. We have seen the footage from the lodge where both Funeka and the friend had booked themselves into. The man can be seen walking hand in hand with Funeka and checking in the reception. He looked a bit intoxicated. They got inside the room and after two hours, the male friend is seen leaving and informing the receptionist that Funeka will follow him soon, but she never did," said Ndlovu.

GRUESOME DISCOVERY

Ndlovu told ZiMoja that the family was informed by the police that her body was found at a lodge. "The gruesome discovery was made by the cleaners the following day. What is more painful is that the male friend is going around as if nothing happened. He has not said a word to the family yet in the footage, he is seen the entering the lodge with Funeka and later checking out without her. He is the person who must be arrested and tell the police on what happened that day. I'm hurting because I raised Funeka after her mother passed away. I'm sure they had an argument in that lodge and the man killed her. We want answers and her colleagues want justice to be served on behalf of Funeka," she said. The Mthiyane family said that they are still waiting on the police to update them about r Funeka's murder investigation. KZN police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident and said that, "Sydenham police are investigating an inquest docket after a body was found on Varsity Drive, Reservoir Hills. Circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated."
