She was broke and thought that the easy way out would be to extort money from her ex-boyfriend. Her plan backfired and it could cost her, her freedom after she was arrested and charged with perjury.
According to North West police spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, Yanda Jim (29) of Boitekong, outside Rustenburg, registered a rape case last week Saturday. "The accused alleged that her former boyfriend raped her on the same day and as part of an investigation by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, the investigating officer took the woman to the doctor for medical examination. but when the doctor was about to examine her, she informed the police that she was not raped and she reported the case to extort money from her former boyfriend," Mokgwabone said.
A case of perjury was registered and the woman was arrested the same day. She made a first court appearance on Tuesday, 28 November 2023 and she was remanded in custody until tomorrow when she will apply for bail at the Rustenburg Magistrates' Court. Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena commended the police for taking decisive action against the accused. He cautioned that incidents such as this one, are tantamount to abusing state resources and at the same time, deny the deserving members of the community of the much-needed services.
