As heavy rain persists, the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure has urged the public to refrain from removing road signs meant to alert drivers of possible flooding danger.
The department has noted incidents of motorists moving road signs on the roads to access closed routes unlawfully.
WE WON?T STOP
Department spokesperson Tertuis Simmers said they will continue to place signs and obstacles where roads are flooded or damaged.
"There may be obstacles under the water you cannot see. Water flow may be strong enough to wash your vehicle away.
Keep yourself and your loved ones safe on the road. When a road is closed, it is closed to all road users and to all vehicle types," said Simmers.
The department has also urged motorists to not risk their lives by crossing flooded roads.
PROTECT CHILDREN
Cape Town Disaster Management?s Sonica Lategan said that the metro?s CCTV network had shown children playing in flooded roadways and near water bodies.
"We appeal to communities to please keep children away from water bodies, as it is a health and safety risk. The city continues to monitor, and respond to the impacts from the inclement weather experienced in recent days."
