He is the one half that makes up the now-dissolved Gqom duo Distruction Boyz. DJ and producer Zipho Mthembu, known as Goldmax, is in trouble with a Durban promoter who alleges he didn't arrive for a gig and refused to refund them.
A NO-SHOW
Siphesihle Nkosi booked Goldmax for the November 2022 for a ladies night gig at Iconic Lifestyle bar in Inanda along with other artists but the Mali Talk hitmaker cancelled at the last hour. "He never arrived," Siphesihle tells ZiMoja. "His booking fee was R8 000 and we paid him a R4 000 deposit, and his management confirmed that he was coming. On the day of the performance, his manager said he was on the way, however, when we phoned Goldmax directly he said he received the rest of the payment ,which was R4000, late and therefore could not make it," Siphesihle said.
NO REFUND
Goldmax made a video apologising to his fans then, blaming the bad weather. "I'd like to apologise for not attending. We had a few problems such as the weather and stuff. But we have spoken to the promoters and we will be back soon." An annoyed Siphesihle said he did not give up on Goldmax. "He promised to come back. We believed him. When we realised that was a lie, we asked for a refund of the R8 000. That is a lot of money for us. I got into a verbal altercation with the manager, and he said he won't pay. When I said I'd open a case, we struggled to find his address, so that did not work." Siphesihle said that he was struggling to get his funds back. "It has been a long time and this is draining. He failed to do the work. That is fine, but can he return the funds and we can book someone else?"
A RESOLUTION
Speaking to Goldmax's manager ,known as Mpeh, who has been with him since the formation of Distruction Boyz, he said, they are unaware of any refunds. "Maybe he was communicating with Goldmax directly, but I am not aware of any refunds that are owed to a promoter in Inanda," he said. "It was also a long time ago, so we need to investigate the matter. If he is indeed owed, then we will make a payment to the promoter. That is not how we operate our business."
