Learning came to a standstill when a teacher was involved in fistfight with a pupil.The video of school teacher embroiled in a fight with a grade 9 learner is said to have happened at Glenvista High School in Johannesburg on Thursday but it went viral on yesterday morning.

In a short video clip, the teacher is seen throwing punches at the learner and the teacher throwing a chair and another learner throwing a desk in the classroom. Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane said he is concerned by an incident that went viral on Friday."The educator and a Grade 9 boy learner from Glenvista High School in Johannesburg are seen fighting in class.According to information at our disposal, the incident took place on Thursday. A video of the incident was captured and it shows an educator and a learner fighting violently in class, damaging school furniture in the process," he said.

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has since launched an investigation to ascertain the details surrounding the incident. 

?We take this matter seriously. The safety of everyone on premises of schools remains our utmost priority. However, such ill-discipline will not be tolerated. Schools are for development, not any other nefarious deeds. As such, we are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and we will act on decisively on our findings,? said MEC Chiloane.

Classes had to be postponed on Friday following the incident until the parents, teacher and the learner met with the school management.
