Since his breakthrough about a decade ago with iconic record label Muthaland, which has made stars like Zola 7, Prophets Of Da City, DJ Cleo and Jozi to name a few, singer and songwriter Vusi Nova has made many strides. Ten years later, he leaves the label for his own, Nova Sounds.

MANAGEMENT

According to a close friend of the singer, Vusi has also gotten rid of his long-time manager Sipho Nyathela who has been by his side since the beginning of his career. "He is looking for a fresh start, I guess. He parted ways with his manager and DJ a few months ago and he seems to be in a space of wanting change," the friend says. "It’s both a good and a bad thing. But one has to plan, and a 10-year milestone is a good start." Vusi tells ZiMoja he is excited about the new chapter. "I am really excited about the new chapter that I am embarking on. Nova Sounds has been a lifetime dream," he says. "I’ve always felt passionate about the development of South African music. This journey gives me an opportunity to explore different avenues and nurture and guide artists. Check out my first release, coming soon."

MILESTONES

Muthaland also confirmed his recent departure from the label in a statement. "Multi-platinum-selling artist, Vusi Nova, began his career at Muthaland Entertainment with his cover of I’d Rather Go Blind in 2013. The hit not only showcased his vocal talents but introduced the star to the world, with his rendition having garnered international attention and interest," the statement reads. "Vusi Nova’s journey with Muthaland has been nothing short of incredible. His musical repertoire boasts national hits like ThandiweNdikuthandileNomathemba, Asphelelanga, Intliziyo, Nguwe, Nomakanjani, Ndincede,  and many others. Not only has he dominated the airwaves, but he has also claimed numerous awards and consistently achieved both Gold and Platinum status for his releases. His latest offering, Zwide’s Song is a mesmerising track from the Shaka iLembe soundtrack and signifies the culmination of his journey with Muthaland."

NEW LABEL

As Vusi steps into a new chapter, all future musical endeavours will be released under the banner of Nova Sounds. Muthaland continues to say, "Vusi Nova founded Nova Sounds in 2018 when he discovered and signed the boy band, 047. And under a joint venture between Muthaland Entertainment and Nova Sounds, 047’s hits such as Wena Ungowam, Ubuhle, and Akasemhle were produced. With Idols star Kwanda’s "Kangaka" being released recently." Lance Stehr, the Founder and CEO of Muthaland Entertainment says, "It’s been a remarkable journey with Vusi Nova. I’ve always believed that he has one of the greatest voices this country has ever heard. As well as the ability to outperform a number of his international industry counterparts making him one of the best live performers on the continent." The label wishes him continued success as he embarks on this path with Nova Sounds. "Muthaland will always stand by him, offering guidance and support in an advisory capacity."
