He is no stranger to controversy. Maskandi singer Mthandeni Manqele, also known as iGcokama Elisha, was involved in a microphone snatching altercation with radio MC And Ukhozi FM presenter Zimiphi "Zimdollar" Biyela after he allegedly insisted on performing at an unallocated time at the Mother of All Maskandi Festival event at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

SNATCHED!

A brazen MC, Zimdollar is seen in a video going on stage and snatching the microphone from Mthandeni as he is about to start performing a song and telling him to 'voets*k!'. Zimdollar has explained what had transpired on the day. "Mthandeni was booked and paid to perform at the event," she says. "He arrived late, and it was the turn of the top 30 artists in the competition to perform. He missed his turn and there was no more time, so he can goand we will not request a refund." Zimdollar says he pretended that he understood this. "He pretended to be leaving with his team, then jumped on stage."

HIGHJACKING THE MIC

She says, they could not make him the closing act, as the program was tight. "We never asked him for a refund, but asked him to leave, as he was late and we could not slot him anywhere," she says. "He then left with his people, went backstage, removed the DJ and put their own, and started playing his music. Then he jumped on stage," she adds. "When I saw this, I ran on stage and grabbed the microphone from him before he could start singing and switched off the sound."

NO LATE COMING

Zimdollar says there is no room for late coming when she is hosting. "My issue is that no matter who you are, I will call you out for being late." She says, "A lot of money has been spent to put this event together by organisers and those who paid for tickets. He disrespected musicians, the stage manager, the organisers, artists, the MC,and everyone. He needs to respect his work. Voetsek is voetsek, period. It doesn't matter if you have an issue." An angry-sounding Mthandeni did not want to comment on the matter and asked not to be disrespected. "Ningazongi jwayela kabi mina" he said before dropping the phone.
