A company behind handling the social media, marketing relations, and website development for the Maskandi TV show, Ushuni Womhlaba, aired on SABC 1 from July to October 2024, said they have not been paid by the production company. The communications company said they rendered services for the crew of Thabo Mphelo Films, but they have not been paid.
EXHAUSTED ALL OPTIONS
The company, After12 Communications, said they are still being owed R86 250. "This is a small amount compared to the unpaid winnings still owed to the top three contestants, who were promised financial prizes for their achievements on the show," said Lindo Mnisi, the CEO of After12. Mnisi said he is beyond disappointed with the conduct and manner in which they were treated. "He has been very tactical in stringing me along and using me to buy himself some time while defusing tension. I fell for it," he said. He added:" We have exhausted all internal processes to get our money. We are left with no other choice but to force you to pay."
DECEPTION
Mnisi said that, despite the immense success of the show, Mphelo, has consistently failed to honour financial commitments for the show that was meant to celebrate and unearth talent in traditional South African music genres such as Maskandi, uMbhaqanga, Isicathamiya, Afro-pop, and various folk music styles. "We urge stakeholders involved to hold Thabo Mphelo Films accountable and ensure that those who contributed are compensated." The company said they are in the process of servicing Mphelo with a letter of demand. Mphelo and the SABC had not responded to questions sent regarding the matter at the time of publishing.
