On 30 July 2021, his family received the horrible news of filmmaker and producer, Shona Ferguson, had died. According to the family, Shona died due to Covid-19 related complications after battling with it for weeks.

HE MULTIPLIED

Two years since his passing, Shona's wife and kids share their grief and try to move on. In a heartfelt letter, Connie shared the good memories in a letter to her late husband, "My love. I can't believe today marks the second anniversary of your transition!" she writes. "Time has become so strange to comprehend. You're still so alive in my heart and my mind and in the memories we shared." Connie says she still feels his presence in everything she does. "I still feel your presence so much, but the thought of never seeing you in your physical form again overwhelms me from time to time. But the Lord has cuddled me and our beautiful family in His arms, and we continue to move, to hope, to dream."

NOT MUCH HAS CHANGED

Left alone to mother her two kids, Lesedi Motsunyane and Alicia Ferguson, Connie quotes the bible verse that's kept her grounded. "Psalm 73:26 - My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever." She says she holds on to this Psalm every time she needs to remember where her strength comes from. "Thank you for teaching me to believe, because that is the only reason I'm still standing today." Connie's family traditions have not changed since Shona's passing. "We still do a lot of the things we did together, travel with the fam, eat your favourite food, play your favourite music, dance, and laugh! Yes, we laugh a lot! And every time we do, we can literally hear the echo of your laughter in the midst of ours!" she says. "You are just an unforgettable man! Truly one of a kind. God loved me so much, he gave me you, and although it seems like it was only for 20 years, it was for eternity, because a love like ours never dies. I love you forever."
