Two officers arrested for the alleged rape of a man they picked up on the road

Two police officers raped a man

Two Nelson Mandela Bay police officers have been arrested for the alleged rape of a man they picked up on the road.The sergeant 42-years old and constable 41 years -old allegedly used a service vehicle and were on duty when they committed the crime.

The national spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), Robbie Raburabu said the victim opened a case two weeks after the incident and was still visibly traumatised.  He said the victim was walking home from a friend's house when two officers allegedly stopped and picked him up. 

"The man was then allegedly sodomised with a sharp object, assaulted and pepper-sprayed. The victim's family is also traumatised and the attack was so severe that the victim claimed he lost consciousness sometime during the attack and struggled to walk afterwards. He said after the incident he was driven and dropped off at an unknown location and had to find his way home"said Rabaru. 


SERIOUS CHARGES


Raburabu explained that the incident happened on the 10th of July but the suspects were arrested on Friday.

He said although the two officers were initially accused of assaulting and sexually assaulting another man, the sexual assault charge has now been changed to rape.

"When questioned about the incident both officers claimed they knew nothing about it. They will be appearing at the Kariega Magistrate court on Monday."
